Matt Mentzl to call Iron games on WSSPPress Release
(March 23, 2010) The Milwaukee Iron of the Arena Football League announced today that Sportsradio 1250 AM WSSP will be the "Flagship Station of the Milwaukee Iron." WSSP will air pre and post game shows in addition to the broadcast of all 16 Iron games from April 2 through July 31 and all postseason games played in 2010.
"Sportsradio 1250 is delighted to partner with the Milwaukee Iron to bring the raw excitement of arena football to our passionate listeners. Summer just got a lot more fun! It'll be a thrill to see the Iron light-up the Bradley Center and we're proud to be the online and radio on-air home for Milwaukee to hear every rockin' game," said WSSP Program Director Tom Parker. The Iron will have each of their 16 home games and the postseason games broadcast on Sportsradio 1250 WSSP. The partnership will include weekly coaches' shows where coaches and players will be able to interact with Iron fans in a casual setting. This agreement also builds off of a current relationship already with Sportsradio 1250 WSSP as morning show host of "The Doug and Mike Show", Doug Russell, was announced as the in-arena public address voice of the Iron. The Iron are also pleased to announce that local broadcaster Matt Menzl will be the on-air talent for the Iron, broadcasting each game on Sportsradio 1250 WSSP. Menzl enters his ninth year in broadcasting, with the 2010 campaign marking his first full season as the broadcast 'Voice of the Milwaukee Iron,' after broadcasting the team's regular-season finale last July. Menzl has eight years of play-by-play experience with a number of sports and programs including being the 'Voice of the Concordia University-Wisconsin Falcons', broadcasting of WIAA State High School games for Fox Sports Wisconsin and a number of Marquette University, UW-Milwaukee and UW-Green Bay sports broadcasts. "The agreement with Sportsradio 1250 WSSP to broadcast Milwaukee Iron games is tremendous for our fans. The AFL is the most fan-friendly league in all of professional sports and we want Iron fans to follow us live for each and every step we take throughout our "Iron-Clad Playoff Guarantee" season. Our move to the AFL has produced a number of great media relationships including the league's national television package with the NFL Network, internet game broadcasts with Nifty TV and this tremendous association with Sportsradio 1250 WSSP. This partnership will give Iron fans the opportunity to catch all of our regular season games, as well as postseason games, live on-line or on the radio through WSSP. I am excited because this agreement includes more than just game broadcasts, it is designed to build a complete sports marketing package that will enable the Iron to grow in the community," said Iron general manager Jason Clark. The Milwaukee Iron have ascended to the highest level of Arena Football as a member of the Arena Football League. Downtown Milwaukee and the Bradley Center will come alive as the Iron play host to legendary AFL teams such as the Iowa Barnstormers, Tampa Bay Storm, Arizona Rattlers, Chicago Rush, Utah Blaze, Cleveland Gladiators, Orlando Predators and more. _______________________
