(March 22, 2010) The nominations are in with ESPN (29) and ESPN2 (17) at the head of the pack with a combined 46 nominees. HBO, which likes to bill itself as not being TV, is happy with its 21 TV nominations. Most surprising has to be the 11 nominations earned by baseball's MLB Network in its rookie season.
NBC had 15 nominations followed by Fox (13), TNT (12), CBS (11), ABC (seven), NFL Network (five), Showtime (four), Fox Sports Net (three), FX (twp), TBS (two), and Versus (two). Nominated for play by play were: Mike Breen (ABC), Joe Buck (Fox), Mike Emrick (NBC), Al Michaels (NBC), Jim Nantz (CBS) and Mike Tirico (ESPN). And for game analysis: Cris Collinsworth (NBC), Jon Gruden (ESPN), Jim Kaat (MLB), Tim McCarver (Fox), Phil Simms (CBS) and Jeff Van Gundy (ABC). Studio host: James Brown (CBS), Bob Costas (NBC/MLB), Bryant Gumbel (HBO), Chris Fowler (ESPN) and Ernie Johnson (TNT). Studio analyst: Charles Barkley (TNT), Tony Dungy (NBC), Kirk Herbstreit (ESPN), Al Leiter (MLB) and Howie Long (Fox). All the broadcast networks can claim John Madden, winner of the "Lifetime Achievement Award." Madden achieved an unprecedented grand slam, working the NFL booth for CBS, Fox, ABC and NBC. _______________________
