(March 22, 2010) ABC 32 Sports Director Adam Bagni has won the Judge’s Award for Television Sportscaster of the Year from the Alabama Broadcasters Association.

Bagni won a 2010 ABBY Award from the organization, an acronym for Alabama’s Best in Broadcasting Yearly. He accepted it Saturday during the ABA’s annual awards banquet at the Cahaba Grand Conference Center in Birmingham.

“I can’t tell you how appreciative I am of this award. There are a lot of talented sports broadcasters in this state, so it really is an honor to be considered among the best,” Bagni said.

“We’re very proud of Adam for winning this award. He has a passion for sports and it shows on-air, as well as in his day-to-day work ethic,” added General Manager Jesse Grear.

In just his second year at ABC 32, Bagni bested many of the state’s long-time television sports personalities. Perhaps even more impressively, he was honored over broadcasters in Birmingham, Mobile, and Huntsville – all of which are much larger markets than Montgomery.

“Honestly, it serves as a bit of validation for me both personally and professionally. Since I came to Alabama, I really wanted to make a name for myself. So for others to recognize my hard work and talent, it’s just an outstanding and humbling feeling,” Bagni said.

Montgomery is the 118th ranked media market of 210 in the United States - significantly smaller than Birmingham (#40), Mobile (#60), and Huntsville (#81).

“This award also gives me a great opportunity to acknowledge all the people that have helped me, and hopefully I can use it to my advantage as I move forward in my career,” he added.

Bagni came to Montgomery in February 2008 after working in production at New England Sports Network (NESN). He was previously honored in 2006 by the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters for his Division-I basketball play-by-play radio broadcasts at WEXP-AM.

Bagni also worked as a PA for NBC during the 2006 Olympics in Torino, Italy. He is a graduate of La Salle University in Philadelphia and originally hails from Taunton, Massachusetts.
