(March 16, 2010) Indianapolis Star columnist Bob Kravitz is exiting the airwaves of his afternoon sports-talk radio show.
Kravitz made his final appearance Monday on "Kravitz & Eddie," the WFNI-AM (1070) program that debuted in January 2008. Charlie Morgan, market manager for Emmis Communications radio stations WFNI, WIBC-FM (93.1) and WLHK-FM (97.1), said Kravitz's contract wasn't renewed because of financial reasons. "We're trying to figure out how we operate in an economically challenged environment," Morgan said. "It's not an indictment of content." Eddie White will continue to be WFNI's 3 to 6 p.m. weekday host, joined by multiple contributors -- including Kravitz in a part-time role. Morgan praised Kravitz as a cornerstone for the station. "He has very keen observations and opinions, and he's willing to make those opinions public to elicit strong reactions," Morgan said. "That's a good thing for a newspaper and for a sports-talk radio station." The "Kravitz & Eddie" show was the most popular afternoon sports-talk radio show in Indianapolis during the last half of 2009, according to Arbitron rankings. "It's a business decision, and I understand it completely," Kravitz said. "I know a lot of people who have lost their jobs. I'm fortunate I still have my primary one with The Star." Throughout 2008 and during the first half of 2009, WNDE-AM (1260) host John "JMV" Michael attracted more listeners in a head-to-head battle with Kravitz and White. Michael left WNDE in November. _______________________
