Czarniak shifts gears from pits to hostCourtesy
Washington Examiner
(March 15, 2010) NBC4's Lindsay Czarniak has made a name for herself as one of the top pit reporters in all of NASCAR. First she was part of the SPEED team and then moved over to TNT where she has continued to shine. Now, after putting in the hard work, Czarniak was rewarded by getting a promotion to host TNT's prerace show, "Countdown to Green." Tell me about your new duties with TNT? Czarniak » Well, I am very excited and happy to be working with Kyle Petty and Larry McReynolds on the show. Both guys have such wonderful knowledge of the cars, the drivers and every aspect of the racing business. We should be able to give the fans a very entertaining and informative show. How about your role as an anchor -- do you have any role models? Czarniak » Two come to mind very quickly. The first would be James Brown, he is such a wonderful host and is able to get his thoughts and insights into the show while giving all of the experts their time. The other is Ernie Johnson who, along with Kenny Smith and Charles Barkley, have set the standard for pregame and postgame shows with what they have done with the NBA on TNT. I think by watching how those guys do it -- and interjecting my own personality -- my style will develop over time. How did your pit reporting experience help you in your new role? Czarniak » Well, going to driver meetings, talking to crew chiefs, owners and drivers gave me a real complete understanding of how NASCAR teams work. Also, it was critical to have the access to the action in the pits to really see how each team works together -- from the guy that changes the tires to the man that owns the cars. Czarniak made the point that, like FOX and ESPN, the folks at TNT would be going to her, Petty and McReynolds throughout the race to update where drivers and teams were so fans would get more inside the race information. Also, they would be on hand to handle rain delays as well so the prerace is just the start of Czarniak's long broadcast day. TNT will start their part of the NASCAR series June 6 from Pocono Raceway. _______________________
