(March 15, 2010) In a move that further integrates the programming between Disney entities ESPN and ABC, a two-hour block of ESPN-originated shows will air on the broadcaster every Saturday beginning April 3.
"ESPN Sports Saturday" will consist of an hourlong highlights-driven show titled "Winners Bracket," plus a mix of other programs from the cabler, including films from its "30 for 30" documentary series and episodes of the "E:60" newsmagazine. "ESPN Sports Saturday" will air 4-6 p.m. through mid-August. The show then goes on hiatus and returns for a December through August 2011 run. "SportsCenter" anchor Hannah Storm will host. Several live sporting events utilize an ESPN crew and are broadcast on ABC, including NBA games, NASCAR and the upcoming World Cup soccer tournament from South Africa. Combining its ABC and ESPN forces, Disney is said to be considering a bid for the next Olympics package. NBC, which has had the rights for the many of the past Games, sees its contract expire with the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. _______________________
