Philly talkers battle in printCourtesy
Philadelphia Daily News
(March 10, 2010) Radio wars: 610 WIP and 97.5 The Fanatic are at it again. This time in the pages of Philly Sport magazine. 97.5's Mike Missanelli (left) tells writer and Philly Sport publisher Ted Beitchman that Howard Eskin is "a fraud. He is disingenuous." Eskin chose not to get personal against Missanelli, but Eskin's boss, Marc Rayfield, manager of the local CBS Radio cluster, talked enough trash for both.
"They've built a radio station with our cast-asides," Rayfield says in the article about the battle between the sports stations. "I'm amused and flattered by that. Have they hurt us? No, they are not competition. They are a nuisance." Tough talk from Rayfield, whose hosts, aside from Angelo Cataldi & Co. in the morning, are losing listeners to The Fanatic. Rayfield also admits he would hire Missanelli again "under the right circumstances." In January we asked Rayfield whether he had tried to lure Missanelli back to WIP to replace Eskin, which is what Missanelli told his listeners. Rayfield and WIP program director Andy Bloom both denied that any type of offer had been made. _______________________
