Mike Flanagan returning to Orioles TV
(March 10, 2010) Former Baltimore Orioles pitcher and front office executive Mike Flanagan is headed back to the broadcast booth.

The Mid-Atlantic Sports Network said Wednesday Flanagan will provide color commentary for around half of the Orioles games during the 2010 season. Flanagan, a left-handed pitcher for the O’s from 1975 to 1987, replaces Buck Martinez, who joined the Toronto Blue Jays’ broadcast team.

Flanagan will join play-by-play announcer Gary Thorne in MASN’s booth. Major League Baseball Hall of Famer and former Oriole pitcher Jim Palmer will continue to provide color commentary for the Orioles’ remaining games on MASN when Flanagan is not in the booth.

Flanagan had previous stints as a broadcaster for the O’s from 1996-1997 and 1999-2002 before joining the team’s front office as executive vice president of baseball operations. His role as a team executive weakened when the ballclub hired Andy MacPhail as president of baseball operations in 2007.
