No pardon for Kornheiser's statement
(February 24, 2010) We are not saying Tony Kornheiser could not one day be a terrific fashion commentator, cracking wise with Joan Rivers on a red carpet near you.

We are saying Kornheiser won't be reviewing the clothing choices of his colleagues at ESPN any more.

Kornheiser was suspended for two weeks from his job as host of ESPN's "Pardon the Interruption" for comments he made on his Washington, D.C., radio show about an outfit ESPN's Hannah Storm had chosen to wear.

ESPN policy takes a dim view of its employees publicly criticizing other ESPN folks.

Kornheiser has apologized to Storm.

According to thebiglead.com, this is what Kornheiser told his listeners Feb. 16 on WTEM-AM (980):

"Hannah Storm in a horrifying, horrifying outfit today. She's got on red go-go boots and a Catholic school plaid skirt. . . . way too short for somebody in her 40s or maybe early 50s by now. She's got on her typically very, very tight shirt. She looks like she has sausage casing wrapping around her upper body.

"I know she is very good, and I'm not supposed to be critical of ESPN people, so I won't," Kornheiser said. "But Hannah Storm . . . come on now. Stop. What are you doing? . . . She's what I would call a Holden Caulfield fantasy at this point."

Storm is 47.

Kornheiser apologized to his audience on his radio show Tuesday.

"I'm a sarcastic, subversive guy," Kornheiser said. "I'm a troll, look at me. I have no right to insult what anybody looks like or what anybody wears."

In July 2002, Kornheiser was suspended for a week from "PTI" and his national ESPN Radio show for making critical remarks about ESPN management on the radio.
