KSIX has been the Corpus Christi affiliate for Astros baseball since their expansion season of 1962 when they were known as the Houston Colt 65's. At that time the station was owned by Van Kennedy, (who was also the original owner of KZTV Channel 10). Kennedy began the station in 1946 and owned it through 2002, when it was briefly transferred to Eagle Creek Broadcasting and then to Withers Family Texas Holdings a few months later. KSIX is the only station in the Astros radio network that has broadcasted every season since 1962.

During his time as owner Kennedy employed such broadcasting greats as Gene Looper, Walter Furley,(considered by some to be the best Corpus Christi News Anchor ever), and a name known to a few folks, Walter Cronkite, who went on to host the CBS Evening news for many memorable years..

Under the new ownership that consists of Howe, his former producer/station operations manager Bill Doerner, as well as an additional unnamed partner, the station will continue to operate under its current format of ESPN Sports Talk.

ESPN 1230 is currently the home of Houston Astros Baseball, Houston Texans Football, Westwood One Sunday Afternoon, Sunday Night, and Monday Night Football, The Corpus Christi Ice Rays, Texas A&M Corpus Christi Basketball, Texas A&M Kingsville Football, and the Corpus Christi Hammerheads of the IFL.
