Future uncertain at ESPN Radio Lincoln

(January 11, 2010) The rumor that Lincoln sports radio station ESPN 1480 is not renewing its contract with ESPN is just that - a rumor, according to Gary Buchanan, president and chief operating officer of Three Eagles Communications.

ESPN 1480 (KLMS 1480 AM) is one of six radio station owned by Lincoln-based Three Eagles Communication.

Multiple sources have told the Journal Star that the station's contract with ESPN expires after the Super Bowl and will not be renewed. KLMS has carried ESPN programming since 2000.

Buchanan dismissed the talk as rumors.

When asked about ESPN 1480's future as a sports station, he said, "I'm not going to discuss the future of any of our radio stations with you."

ESPN 1480 recently terminated its local sports talk show "The Spread," featuring former Nebraska football player Jason Peter, and fired program director Jeff Wilkerson. Peter and Wilkerson said they were dismissed for financial reasons.
