(January 8, 2010) Famous sportscaster and central figure in the firing of Coach Mike Leach, Craig James, confirms on the record for the web site of WFAA TV in Dallas that he is interested in politics and is also interested in running for Kay Bailey Hutchison's Senate seat. Hutchison is running for Governor and will have to step down from the Senate if she wins.

Craig James' son, Adam James, made allegations that Leach abused him in the days before Leach was fired. Craig James also made a televised statement on ESPN shortly after Leach's December 29th firing.

NewsChannel 11 had been working with both local and national GOP sources but until now it had only been rumored, not substantiated, that the elder James might have his eye on Hutchison's Senate seat.
