Rosenberg continues to entertainCourtesy

(January 7, 2010) He's been keeping my ears glued to the radio and bringing a smile to my face since I began listening to him on Sports Radio 660 AM WFAN in New York.
Now based in South Florida, Sidney "Arthur" Ferris Rosenberg is continuing to do so with his high-energy, no-nonsense views on sports and pop culture topics on "The Sid Rosenberg Show," which airs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays on WQAM-560 in Miami, the flagship station for Dolphins and Hurricanes football. Rosenberg, who resides in Boca Raton with his wife of more than 17 years, Danielle, daughter Ava and son Gabriel, is also the lead personality for OpenSports.com and the host of Shovio.com, a TV/radio hybrid program. His tell-all book from Triumph Books, "You're Wrong and You're Ugly," is due in the spring. Born in Brooklyn, the 42-year-old Rosenberg started his radio career on "The Drive," which was heard on the Internet at SportsLine USA. He later moved to terrestrial radio and was nationally syndicated in more than 40 markets by SportsFan and Westwood One. Following his two years on national radio, Rosenberg went to New York, where he co-hosted "The Sports Guys" show on WNEW, before moving to WFAN in 2001 to do sports on "The Imus in the Morning" program, while hosting a midday sports show. In November 2005, he relocated to South Florida and signed on with 790 The Ticket, before moving to WQAM this past September. At his website, http://www.sidrosenberg.com , Sid's charity—Sid for SIDS—supports the CJ Foundation for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. In a one-on-one interview at WQAM on Christmas Eve, Sid talked about his desire to bring his sports knowledge to local and national audiences. He's especially eager to discuss his favorite New York sports teams: the Mets, Giants, Knicks and Rangers. Q: What makes someone like you a successful radio talk show host? A: Well, I think, a no-nonsense approach. And it doesn't matter what I'm talking about, whether I'm talking about sports, or pop culture or politics. It's a no-nonsense approach. I mean, my show is a dichotomy, because truth be told, almost everything I talk about is tongue-and-cheek, unless I'm talking about a serious topic. But everything I do is tongue-and-cheek. Almost everything I talk about, there's always a joke at the very end. You kind of laugh it off, you know what I'm saying? Q: What's the best part about sports talk radio? A: If you like sports, you have these arguments with your friends back and forth all the time, every single night, and I'm getting paid for it. Pretty handsomely, too, by the way. You get paid to do what guys do anyway. If you go to the bar, if you go to your buddy's house, if you go to your father's house, you're talking about sports, and I get paid to do that. But I treat it a little differently. It's not just about that. It's also an opportunity for me to [voice] some of my other opinions on things even more important than sports, which I do almost on a daily basis. So it gives me a chance to argue about my passion, which is sports. Laugh—I love to laugh. I do some things also that are a bit serious, that I think help people out. Q: Give us a real rundown on what you think about your teams, as well as the Dolphins and Hurricanes. A: [The Giants, who lost to the Carolina Panthers, 41-9, in the final game at Giants Stadium] are a playoff-caliber team, but they're not a championship team right now. They've got to work on that defense. [The Knicks] have got to get LeBron James. They've played better as of late, but they've got to get LeBron. I think that as long as James Dolan [chairman of Madison Square Garden] runs the Knicks and the Rangers, they're always doomed. I don't think it's realistic that [the Dolphins] make the playoffs. I think [the Hurricanes] are good. They have improved. But I'm not ready to make Randy Shannon out to be Ara Parseghian. Like the Dolphins, they're going in the right direction." Q: Who wins the BCS championship this year? And who will be the Super Bowl XLIV teams? A: Alabama. I think [Nick] Saban is a better coach. Eagles vs. Colts. _______________________
