Mike & Mike cracks Top 5 in St. Louis
Press Release
(January 5, 2010) Since its inception one year ago this month, 101 ESPN has dominated the sports/talk arena in the St. Louis market, and December 2009’s Arbitron Survey results show no sign of stopping the station’s momentum.

The newest St. Louis sports/talk radio station reached another important milestone within their first year of operations. ESPN’s nationally syndicated “Mike & Mike in the Morning” AM Drive show is now ranked among the Top 5 radio stations among St. Louis Men 25-54, the station’s key listener demographic group.

Upon receiving the news about the latest Arbitron Survey rankings, 101 ESPN Program Director Jason Barrett commented, “It's pretty obvious that the St. Louis sports audience is embracing the ‘Mike & Mike’ show in a very big way. The Top 5 ranking for ‘Mike & Mike’ demonstrates that it doesn't matter if a show is local or not, what matters most to sports fans is whether the content is good and the hosts are entertaining to listen to.”

According to Bonneville St. Louis Vice President and Market Manager John Kijowski, “Even before the station started broadcasting in January 2009, our goal for the nationally-syndicated ‘Mike & Mike’ Show was to be a Top 5 finisher among Men 25-54 in the local St. Louis AM Drive timeslot. Bonneville St. Louis is proud that 101 ESPN achieved this goal within the first year of operation.”

The December PPM Monthly Release (and the fourth PPM currency month for the St. Louis market) proves that 101 ESPN continues to make improvements in their overall radio ratings, going from a 3.9 share in September, to the 5.0 average ratings share the station achieved and maintained through the months of November and December 2009. This ranking is based on the Monday-Sunday 6am to Midnight category.

Highlights from the December 2009 Arbitron report include the following:

• Even without a permanent co-host, the “Burwell & Company” Show increased to a 3.4 ratings share in December, up from November’s 3.2 and October’s 3.0 ratings.

According to Barrett, “This is the best ratings share yet for this show, and all the more reason we made the change to find a partner like recent hire Bob Stelton, who shares exciting chemistry with co-host Bryan Burwell.”

• “The Bernie Miklasz Show” rebounded in the Men 25-54 rankings, moving up to a 4.7 rating share and an 8th place finish. Of particular note, the show’s Total Audience or Cume increased dramatically by gaining more than 20,000 listeners between November (38,100 ) and December (59,900) of 2009.

• “The Fast Lane” Show with Randy Karraker, D’Marco Farr and Bob Ramsey continues their dominance in the PM Drive slot with a consistent ratings share of 5.1 and 6th place finish in December. The show’s Cume is also trending upwards among Men 25-54 in the St. Louis market, rising from 70,100 in November to 74,500 in December.

• 101 ESPN’s specialty shows – “Instant Replay”, “101 Sportsline”, “The Back Nine” and “314 Sports” - all experienced gains in both their targeted ratings shares and total audience numbers during the month of December.

• St. Louis Rams Football on 101 ESPN continues to dominate Sundays with a #1 ranking from 9am-6pm across the board. This is particularly true for television “black out” games like the recent Rams and Seattle match-up, which garnered an In-Game ratings share of 35.0 for Men 25-54, 24.6 for Persons 25-54 and 21.0 for Persons 6+.
