Ed Kaplan returning to sports talk radioCourtesy
Florida Sun Sentinel
(January 4, 2010) Ed Kaplan, who originated sports talk on WQAM (AM 560), is returning to radio on Jan. 11.
Kaplan is taking over the 4-7 p.m. weekday drive time shift on AM 640 (one of three stations that carry the WFTL call letters). Kaplan has not had a full-time gig since he was let go by WQAM in November 2007 in a salary purge, which eventually also resulted in Hank Goldberg and Neil Rogers leaving the station. Kaplan came out of retirement during the Yankees' post-season run this past fall to host programs leading into 640 AM's coverage of the games. WQAM was playing oldies music when Kaplan introduced a late-night sports talk show to the station in the fall of 1986. That show triggered the gradual evolution of the station from music to sports talk. _______________________
