David Dalati receives appropriate tribute
(December 11, 2009) One of the more unpleasant aspects of some radio formats is that when personnel changes, it’s as if the old format’s talent never existed.

But while it didn’t ease the pain of losing his job, David Dalati received an appropriate tribute following his involuntary departure from KBME (790 AM). Colleague Charlie Pallilo devoted 2 ½ minutes to the topic, and KRIV (Channel 26) anchor Mark Berman also phoned in to salute Dalati.

“I want to thank (Pallilo and Berman),” Dalati said. “For two guys of that caliber to do that was very impressive, and I’m very thankful.

“I’ve been overwhelmed by the number of calls within the industry and outside the industry as well. It’s been very touching. It’s been pretty cool, actually.”

Pallilo said on the air that in the wake of Dalati’s departure, “This is a lesser place for me today. The show … is impacted by this. Devastated by it? No. But impacted? Yes.”

He continued: “I don’t like this particular decision. I feel disappointment and some anger about it, but I respect the jobs that the decision-makers have to do. Wherever David lands and whoever lands him will be getting a professional and a very good person.”
