Play-by-Play was founded by veteran Mudcats radio broadcaster Patrick Kinas and Joe Bourdow, a Florida advertising executive. Play-by-Play will assume the costs of producing the broadcasts and will reap any advertising revenue, Kinas says. No money changed hands in the deal between the team and Play-by-Play, he adds.

Play-by-Play has struck deals to have the games broadcast on a new station: WDWG 98.5 FM, which is a 16,000 watt First Media station in Rocky Mount. Curtis Media Group radio station WDOX 570 AM, which has broadcast Mudcats games for the past three years, also will broadcast the games again this year.

Kinas says that adding WDWG to the station lineup will quadruple the potential audience for the games compared to last year. Play-by-Play will pay stations to broadcast the games, though Kinas declined to provide financial details of the arrangements.

Kinas says the company, which employs four people, hopes to break even financially this year.
