Brian McKenna returning to KFNS
(December 4, 2009) Brian McKenna won't be out of work long. McKenna, who with co-host Vic Porcelli was fired last week at KSLG (1380 AM), is heading back to competitor KFNS (590 AM) effective Dec. 14 to man the 10 p.m.-midnight shift.

McKenna has had multiple stints at KFNS, most recently on the morning-drive show before being fired a year ago this week by then-new general manager Dave Greene to clear the way for the hiring of Martin Kilcoyne.

"We were getting beaten ratings-wise in the mornings, it was that simple," McKenna said. "And when Dave let me go we shook hands. He said, 'You never know what happens in this business (in the future).' He was right.''

After his exit from KFNS he ended up on 1380 a few months later, first with Bernie Miklasz in afternoon drive, then on middays after Miklasz left. Now he's headed back to 590, in the late-night slot he manned there several years ago. As is becoming common in sports radio, he will not be paid a salary but instead has a broker arrangement in which he sells his own advertising. He said he already has several sponsors lined up and added that Kurt LaBelle of KPLR (Channel 11) might participate on the show, too.

Meanwhile Green said Brendan Wiese and Nick Barrale, who now hold the slot McKenna will take, might move to another time.
