George Kellas, late sportscaster, honored by Nailers
(November 30, 2009) The Wheeling Nailers honored local broadcasting legend the late George Kellas with a bobblehead Saturday night.
Kellas was a major supporter of all Ohio Valley sports throughout his life.

The Nailers also took on the breast cancer battle at Wesbanco Arena with "Pink In the Rink."

The Nailers donated $2 off designated tickets and part of the proceeds from the Pink jersey auction to Ohio Valley's Awareness Inc. Driving for a Cure.

Last season the Nailers donated over $6,300 to Ohio Valley Awareness Inc. to help with local cancer patient care. OV Awareness Inc. uses the funds to provide boxed lunches to chemotherapy patients at the infusion center at The Cancer Center at OVMC. The organization is also purchasing three laptop computers for patients to use while receiving treatment.

The Kellas bobbleheads were courtesy of Jackson Hewitt and WKKX.

"George was a great champion for Wheeling and the Ohio Valley." Nailers Vice President Craig Bommer said. "He always showed his love for the local sports teams, kids and fans. We are honored that his wife Sherry allowed us to honor him on this night and with this bobble head."

The late-Kellas passed away in February after a battle with cancer, his widow Sherry said George would have been flattered.
