Milo Hamilton on CD
(November 27, 2009) Speaking of chaos and radio, few have experienced more in that regard than Milo Hamilton, who this month begins his 65th year on the radio. And as we segue from giving thanks into the Season of Conspicuous Consumption, Hamilton’s fans will soon have a chance to pick up a copy of his greatest hits.

Pat Hughes, the Cubs’ announcer on WGN since the mid-1990s, plans to feature Hamilton on the latest in his series of Baseball Voices CDs, which includes tributes to Red Barber, Marty Brennaman, Jack Buck, Harry Caray, Harry Kalas and Bob Uecker.

The Hamilton CD, which will be available next month via Hughes’ BaseballVoices.com Web site, includes his call of Hank Aaron’s 715th home run, highlights from his days with the White Sox and Pirates, speeches at the Baseball Hall of Fame and Radio Hall of Fame and, from his Astros career, Craig Biggio’s 3,000th hit, the Astros’ pennant-clinching win in 2005, Mike Scott’s no-hitter in 1986, the six-pitcher no-hitter against the Yankees and others.

“I’m into this because it’s what I do, but I have found to my amazement that a lot of people enjoy listening to highlights from the radio,” Hughes said. “With the Jack Buck CD, for example, you’ll get memories of Lou Brock’s 3,000th hit or Bob Gibson’s no-hitter, but it also reminds the fan of their own lives. It can be a real emotional trip.”
