(November 12, 2009) Veteran Fairfield, Ill., sportscaster Stan David, a member of the state's broadcasting hall of fame, died Wednesday.
The cause of death has not been determined, though David had been ill and off work since Tuesday morning. David, 59, joined WFIW-104.9FM as a sportscaster in July 1971, coming to Fairfield from Springfield, Ill. For over 38 years, he was the play-by-play voice for hundreds of Fairfield Mules football and basketball games, and hosted WFIW's morning talk show on WFIW-1390AM. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Stan is survived by a son, Marty David, a reporter for the Wayne County Press in Fairfield, his mother and two sisters. Funeral services for are pending at the Johnson & Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield. _______________________
