Kevin McHale goes to work on TVCourtesy
Rochester Post-Bulletin
(October 24, 2009) Kevin McHale has a new job, and -- thankfully -- it's nowhere close to the office of a general manager, vice-president of basketball operations or even on the bench as a coach.
He is set to join the studio team on NBA TV, doing analysis for the network's "Fan Night'' program on Tuesday nights. He starts next Tuesday, the opening of the 2009-2010 NBA season. McHale, who was fired by the Minnesota Timberwolves first as a general manager and later as a coach in June, will join former NBA player Chris Webber and studio host Ernie Johnson. McHale replaces former NBA star Gary Payton in the studio. NBA TV is not available on the Charter Communications lineup. McHale will also appear at times on TNT, which is a partner with the NBA on the NBA Digital platform. The NBA TV show spends the entire night reviewing highlights and giving analysis of the Tuesday night games. McHale spent two seasons working on Timberwolves telecasts before taking over as director of basketball operations in May of 1995. This week's NBA TV show is a two-hour opening night special starting at 4 o'clock. TNT has a doubleheader scheduled that night, with the Cavs playing the Celtics followed by the Clippers and Lakers. McHale is expected to appear on TNT Tuesday night as well. The TNT studio show is one of the best around with Ernie Johnson as host alongside Kenny Smith and Charles Barkley. Adding McHale to that mix appears to be a winner. _______________________
