(October 16, 2009) Jeff Marek, popular sportscaster for CBC's Hockey Night in Canada, joins the CBC News: Morning team. His sportscast will include two highlight segments, each hour from 6 to 9 a.m., as well as coverage of breaking sports news during those hours. Marek will continue to host HNIC Radio on SIRIUS.
A 14-year sports-talk radio veteran, Marek joined CBC's Hockey Night in Canada in September 2007, providing intelligent hockey talk, insight and debate during the three-hour national daily drive-time hockey program. During select games throughout the season, Marek also works as a rinkside reporter and host of I-Desk for CBC's Hockey Night in Canada, nd he covered several events for CBC’s coverage of Beijing 2008: The Olympic Games. The Toronto native is well known for his previous work on Leafs Lunch on AM 640 Toronto Radio, where he became one of sports talk radio’s most authoritative personalities. Marek joined AM 640 in 2000, hosting The Jeff Marek Show, a nightly open-line talk show, while working as the station’s morning news anchor. He quickly became the director of sports news and joined host Bill Watters on Leafs Lunch. “Jeff’s natural hosting ability and interesting perspective on sports makes him a perfect fit for the morning show, and his arrival frees up Colleen Jones to file reports at large,” said Cynthia Kinch, director, CBC Newsworld. “Jeff is known for his energetic and enthusiastic approach to breaking news stories, and viewers will enjoy his on-air chemistry with Morning host Heather Hiscox.” _______________________
