Potsdam to honor sportscaster Conrad Elliott
(October 16, 2009) School officials at Potsdam Central School have launched an effort to raise $3,500 to purchase a plaque to honor former broadcaster James Conrad Elliott for his years of promoting athletics across the region.

Mr. Elliott, 80, is a 1947 graduate of Potsdam High School. He began his career at radio station WPDM and spent 32 years as a sports broadcaster covering athletic events ranging from Division I hockey to Little League baseball.

Potsdam Central School Board of Education member Joanne M. Hudson, who helped start the initiative this summer to honor Mr. Elliott, said donations of any size can be made to a special account set up at the district office at 29 Leroy St., Potsdam. She said personal checks can be made payable to the Con Elliott Recognition Fund.

School board members had hoped to name the press box at the district's new $2.5 million turf field in Elliott's honor, but the board has since decided that a plaque dedicated to Mr. Elliott elsewhere on the school campus will be seen by more people.
