Grand Slam Sports takes over KFNS
(October 7, 2009) Grand Slam Sports has signed a local marketing agreement with Big League Broadcasting St. Louis to operate KFNS (590 AM) radio.

Grand Slam Sports, led by President David Greene, is supported by a local investment group formed by Greene and business partner James Oelklaus to operate KFNS and St. Louis Sports Magazine.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“We have been working on this for several months and we have assembled a terrific group of investors,” said Greene, who currently serves as the vice president and general manager of KFNS. “We are well capitalized, and James and I are excited to be leading this group of partners who all share a passion for sports, sports marketing and for the St. Louis area.”

KFNS, which began as an all sports station in 1993, has been owned by Big League Broadcasting St. Louis since 2004. Atlanta-based Big League Broadcasting bought KFNS, 100.7 FM and KRFT (1190 AM) for $11.5 million.

“We have been impressed by the leadership of Dave Greene and James Oelklaus and the passion that these two St. Louis natives have shown for this format,” said Andrew Saltzman, president of Big League Broadcasting St. Louis.

KFNS said it offers the most local programming of any of the radio stations that cover sports in St. Louis and features 22 hours of local programming each weekday.

St. Louis Sports Magazine was launched in April 2007 by Greene and Oelklaus, and combined operations with KFNS in November 2008 in a partnership with Big League Broadcasting. St. Louis Sports Magazine distributes 25,000 copies each month throughout the metropolitan area at more than 150 locations.
