Sixers, Flyers reach radio deal
(September 16, 2009) Comcast-Spectacor, owner of the Flyers and Sixers, has taken over programming and sponsorship responsibilities of the teams' radio broadcasts in a new agreement with WIP (610-AM), a source told the Daily News yesterday.

Previously, WIP sold and managed the air time for Flyers and Sixers games.

The deal - which formally begins with the broadcast of tonight's Flyers preseason game in Detroit - is believed to be for 3 years.

All of the Flyers' preseason games will be broadcast on radio this season with Tim Saunders and Chris Therien calling the action.

Tom McGinnis enters his 15th year as the Sixers' radio broadcaster.

Former Phantoms vice president Mike Thornton will head up the new radio venture for Comcast-Spectacor as program director.

Comcast SportsNet will air 63 of the Flyers' regular-season contests this year. The Comcast Network (TCN) will handle 10 games, Versus eight games and NBC potentially will feature the Flyers five times during its Sunday national broadcasts.
