Caps hockey staying on WTOPCourtesy
Washington Capitals
(September 15, 2009) The Washington Capitals and Bonneville International Corporation have reached a three-year agreement extension to broadcast Capitals games on Bonneville stations’ WFED 1500 AM, a 50,000-watt station, and 820 AM. WFED will be the flagship station, carrying Capitals games, pregame show and an extensive postgame show, which will be presented by Eye Doctors of Washington, the official eye doctor of the team.
“We are pleased to continue our relationship with WFED and WTOP,” said Capitals president Dick Patrick. “The 1500 AM signal is extremely strong and allows our game broadcasts to reach as many fans as possible. WTOP has been a great sister-station partner, and we look forward to working with the entire Bonneville group to bring the excitement of Caps hockey to listeners.” In addition to the game broadcasts, WFED will carry the weekly one-hour show Saturday Night Caps at 6 p.m., which enters its third season as a lead-in to Caps games. A variety of news, feature and promotional elements will air on WFED and WTOP. The Capitals and Bonneville also will partner on several community relations initiatives, including a special “charity of the month” program. “We love giving Caps fans the opportunity to listen to these great radio broadcasts via WFED and our great distribution on 1500 AM and 820 AM,” said Bonneville D.C. senior vice president and market manager Joel Oxley. “The excitement level for this team is high and we can’t wait for another fun season to begin.” Capitals radio play-by-play announcer Steve Kolbe returns for his 13th season of calling the action and will do so this year from the GEICO broadcast booth. Former Capital Ken Sabourin returns for his seventh season of providing analysis at all Capitals home games. The action starts when WFED will carry two preseason games – Sept. 19 at Chicago and Sept. 21 vs. Buffalo. _______________________
