(September 7, 2009) Steve Daugherty, known for his broadcasts of the PHS Big Reds, and a sportscaster for Clear Channel Radio of the Mid-Ohio Valley since the 1990's, died early Sunday morning at a Morgantown hospital following surgery for an aneurysm. He was 56 years old.
He was stricken Monday afternoon and later airlifted to Morgantown. Daugherty was known for his love of sports, radio and the Big Reds in general, and was able to weave all three into a great career. Steve broadcast the Big Red football, basketball, and baseball games-first on 1450 WLTP-before the broadcasts were moved to stronger FM signals on WDMX and this year on WRVB. He also anchored daily sports broadcasts on WLTP and its sister stations. Steve was also instrumental in helping establish the Mid-Ohio Valley Sports Hall of Fame and he emceed the induction ceremonies and installation. His last broadcast of PHS football was August 28, the PHS-Brooke game. _______________________
