WDFN adds local sports talk

(September 3, 2009) Local sports talk is back on WDFN-AM (1130) "The Fan" -- six months after the station's entire local airstaff was fired in favor of syndicated sports programming all day long.

Here's the new Monday-Friday lineup that starts the Tuesday after Labor Day:

7 a.m.-10 a.m.: Sean Baligian. Baligian is a 10-year Detroit radio veteran and color commentator for Plymouth Whalers hockey. Last month, Baligian took on the afternoon drive slot on Grand Rapids' ESPN 96.1. He'll do both shows from Detroit, and says: "Yes, I'll be busy, but I feel blessed."

10 a.m.-noon: Ryan Ermanni. Ermanni is a Fox 2 sports reporter.

Noon-2 p.m.: ESPN personality Colin "The Herd" Cowherd.

2-6 p.m.: Free Press columnist Drew Sharp and local play-by-play announcer Matt Shepard.

In a statement, Clear Channel Operations Manager Todd Thomas commented on the changes:

"No radio station in town offers an 'inside track' on sports. So, we put together a group of guys that actually hang out with the players, coaches and management of all the Detroit (and Michigan) teams. Not because it's their job ... but because they eat, breathe and sleep sports. There is no bigger sports town in the country than Detroit -- don't we deserve a radio station devoted exclusively to talking about what we love?"
