Cleveland sportscaster Galeti exits
(August 31, 2009) The Cleveland Browns' season will kick off without Chuck Galeti on the sidelines.

The longtime sports broadcaster left sister stations WOIO Channel 19 and WUAB Channel 43 in mid-August.

Galeti, who was Channel 19's weekend sports anchor, said after 20 years of covering sports in Cleveland and Youngstown, he'd had enough of waiting outside locker rooms for players to give him a quote.
He's looking forward to spending the fall relaxing with his family at their Parma home. "I'll have some opportunities down the road," said Galeti, 44.

The station turned to sports reporter Sue Ann Robak, who was laid off from WEWS Channel 5 in October, as a temporary fill-in while searching for a permanent replacement, according to Channel 19 news director Dan Salamone.

Channel 19 rescued Galeti from possible career oblivion after a 2003 car accident and subsequent time in jail and drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

"I thank (Channel) 19 for giving me an opportunity," said Galeti, who was a sports-talk host for WTAM AM/ 1100 at the time of the accident. He moved from Channel 19's evening sports anchor to the weekend post nearly two years ago.

Galeti said he signed an extension when his contract was up in August, but after more reflection, decided to leave.

The Parma native grew up in Seven Hills and came to Channel 3 in 1992 from the NBC affiliate in Youngstown. He was a sportscaster and morning co-host on Channel 3 from 1992 to 2003, when he left for WTAM.
