Sportscaster Costas moves out of NBC studio
(August 27, 2009) NBC just announced that Bob Costas henceforth will appear from the site of its Sunday night games and begin the network's coverage at 7 p.m. ET by discussing events of the day with Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth.

Mr. Costas, who grew up in Commack, also will conduct interviews with newsmakers and appear at halftime and postgame.

Dan Patrick and Keith Olbermann will anchor the highlights at 30 Rock, with analysis from Tony Dungy and Rodney Harrison.

(Tiki Barber will continue to report from the site of an important league game each week.)

Ebersol called Michaels, Collinsworth and Costas "a treasure trove of talent."

Said Costas: "I just think it’s a better use of me at this point to have me at the scene of an event."

I asked Ebersol about the fact relatively few people figure to be watching at 7 if there is a good game going on on CBS or Fox. He acknowledged that reality but added, "If you give people the very best, they'll find a way to it."
