Roth joins CSU football broadcasts
(August 12, 2009) Brian Roth, who has been part of the radio broadcast team for CSU sports for the past eight years, will be back in the booth again this fall, working alongside new play-by-play man Jerry Schemmel as the color analyst for football.

"I've listened to Jerry Schemmel for years, and he has always been, hands-down, my favorite basketball broadcaster," Roth said Tuesday, when Colorado State University announced it had finalized its radio broadcast team for the upcoming football season. "The fact that I'm going to be able to be next to him in the booth, calling Ram athletics certainly is a thrill for me. It's not only a thrill but an honor, too."

Schemmel, the play-by-play voice of the NBA's Denver Nuggets since 1992, is replacing Rich Bircumshaw, who passed away last spring, as the radio "Voice of the Rams" on Nelligan Sports Marketing's broadcasts of CSU football and men's basketball games. He also will host a weekly coach's show with Steve Fairchild at 7 p.m. Wednesdays, live from the Stonehouse Grille, 160 W. Oak St. Denver radio station KLZ (AM 560) serves as the flagship for the Colorado State Radio Network. The local affiliate is KCOL (AM 600).

"I love doing football broadcasts, and I love the college level, so I'm very excited about it," Schemmel said.

Roth has been the color analyst for CSU football for the past two years and was the sideline reporter for six years prior to that. Kevin McGlue, who has been involved in CSU broadcasts for the past eight years, is returning as the sideline reporter.

"I think we're going to be a really good team," Schemmel said.

Roth will continue in his role as the play-by-play broadcaster for CSU women's basketball, with McGlue serving as the color analyst. Roth also will be the play-by-play broadcaster for CSU men's games that conflict with the Nuggets home games that Schemmel will continue to broadcast.

CSU also announced the launch of a weekly television show, "Rams Sports Magazine," that will air at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays, beginning Sept. 3, on Northern Colorado 5, a regional outlet of Cheyenne's KGWN.
