(August 12, 2009) The Citadel Sports Network, a division of Kirkman Broadcasting, Inc. announces its largest statewide network in over a decade. All told, 12 stations throughout South Carolina will broadcast the 2009 football season making The Citadel Sports Network the third largest network in the Southern Conference, the premier FCS league.
"Our goal from day one of creating this year's network was to bring Citadel football to as many of the loyal alumni, fans and military personnel as possible," says Director of Broadcasting Darren Goldwater. "Our network covers nearly the entire state, providing fans the chance to follow the Bulldogs wherever their travels might take them." ESPN Radio 910 The Team will again serve as the flagship station from its Charleston based studio. Fans can also find Bulldog football on 950 AM in Charleston, 660 AM in Greenville, 95.9 FM and 1470 AM in Columbia, 105.9 FM and 1240 AM in Sumter, 98.9 FM and 1230 AM in Florence, 1260 AM in Lake City and 93.7 FM and 1050 AM in Myrtle Beach/Conway, and on the internet at www.CitadelSports.com. Goldwater returns for his second season as the "Voice of the Bulldogs" and will again team with Citadel Athletic Hall of Famer Walt Nadzak in the booth. Joining them on the sidelines is Brad Franko, a veteran news and sports anchor in Charleston for WCBD Channel 2. Every broadcast will begin two hours prior to kickoff as Ted Byrne hosts The Citadel Sports Network Tailgate Show. On home Saturdays the show will originate from outside Johnson Hagood Stadium in conjunction with a Beach Music Shag Party, creating lively and entertaining gameday atmosphere. "We've been looking at ways to join forces with The Citadel Athletics Department to create the best gameday atmosphere possible," says Kirkman Broadcasting Owner/General Manager Gil Kirkman. "Combined with the growth of our network, the newly-formatted Tailgate Show puts the finishing touches on what should be an outstanding season." In addition, this year marks the 25th anniversary of Kirkman Broadcasting's partnership with The Citadel Athletics Department as the exclusive broadcasting rights holder for Bulldogs athletics. _______________________
