Sportscaster Saunders lands in St. Louis
Press Release
(August 7, 2009) 101 ESPN announces the addition of veteran sports broadcaster Cliff Saunders to their line-up. Saunders will be joining the St. Louis sports/talk radio station on Monday, August 10, 2009 when he assumes the role of sports anchor, providing the local voice for sports updates during the Morning and Midday shows.

Saunders comes to St. Louis after three years in Milwaukee at Sportsradio 1250 WSSP. During his time at WSSP, Cliff hosted a number of shows, including Afternoon Drive, Brewers Pregame, and Green Bay Packers Pre and Post-game shows.

Prior to his experience at WSSP, Cliff spent time at WSCR (The Score) in Chicago as an update anchor and host, and held a similar position at Sporting News Radio for six years.

During his eighteen year career, Saunders has worked behind the scenes with some of the best sports/talk talent at ESPN Radio, and he was a key member on the production staff of the nationally syndicated “Fabulous Sports Babe” Show. Cliff got his start in radio in 1991, working at WGR 550 in Buffalo as a producer, anchor and host.

Saunders comments, “I am excited to be coming to St. Louis - truly one of the best sports cities in the country. From the first time I visited the city I have loved the passion that St. Louis sports fans have for their hometown teams.” He continues, “To go to Busch Stadium and see over forty-thousand people wearing red is truly an amazing sight. My father in law has been a Cardinals fan for seventy years and St. Louis has been a place I have wanted to come to for a very long time. I am truly looking forward to making it my home.”
In addition to his daily duties, Cliff will also host the weekly Rams Post-Game show with former Rams and Cardinals Coach Jim Hanifan.

Commenting on Saunders’ additional Rams broadcasting role, 101 ESPN Program Director Jason Barrett notes, “Cliff Saunders is someone I’ve scouted for the past few years, and during that time, I’ve learned that in addition to being a very talented broadcaster, he also has a strong passion for radio and a burning desire to win.”

Barrett continues, “He’s well respected by many in the industry – and with 18 years of experience on both the national and local levels – he’s someone who I am confident will be able to come in and take on multiple responsibilities to support our continued evolution as one of the premier sports radio stations in the country. I’m very excited about his addition to the 101 ESPN roster.”

Vice President and Market Manager John Kijowski adds, “Cliff Saunders has an excellent reputation nationally in the sports/talk radio business, and frankly we’re thrilled to have a consummate broadcast professional like Cliff on our team.””
