WEEI ends fued with GlobeCourtesy
Boston Globe
(August 5, 2009) Boston sports radio station WEEI 850 AM and the Boston Globe announced today that, starting immediately, the Globe's sports reporters and columnists will be allowed to appear as contributors on all programming on WEEI.
Globe staffers will be allowed to be call-in contributors on "The Big Show" and "Dennis and Callahan," and are permitted to serve as co-hosts and in-studio guests on "The Dale and Holley Show." "I think this is a great win for WEEI and the Globe," WEEI vice president of programming Jason Wolfe said. "The Globe's sports department has a deep tradition of exceptional coverage of the Boston sports scene and it is my pleasure to welcome them back to our airwaves. I know our listeners will appreciate their insight and expertise." The announcement is a reversal of previous bans. Globe editors stopped permitting staffers to appear on "The Big Show" or "Dennis and Callahan" altogether in 1999 after a disagreement over the shows' content, and WEEI responded by not allowing them on any other programs. "We are pleased to have our talented writers on WEEI, a station that is listened to so avidly by so many passionate and devoted sports fans," Globe editor Marty Baron said. _______________________
