Veteran Nebraska sportscaster on the move
(August 4, 2009) Renowned North Platte sportscaster Chuck Schwartz is taking his distinguished voice downtown.

Hometown Family Radio announced Monday that Schwartz, the voice of the North Platte High School Bulldogs for more than 30 years, has joined the radio staff.

Schwartz was general manager of the combined station KELN/KNPQ/KOOQ in North Platte before making the move to Hometown Family Radio.

Schwartz will broadcast Friday night games this fall on Hometown’s ROCK 100.7. He will also join the sales staff as marketing consultant.

Hometown Family Radio arrived in North Platte in October 2007. The company operates the 100.7 FM station and Wild Country 93.5 from the corner of Fourth and Dewey.

HFR has 13 other Nebraska radio stations, including Scottsbluff, McCook and the company headquarters in Grand Island.

Schwartz has been in broadcasting or retail sales for 35 years, primarily in North Platte. He was sports director at Eagle Communications in North Platte for many years, broadcasting as many as 125 high school and college games a year.

The Nebraska School Activities Directors Association recently honored Schwartz with an Outstanding Service Award, an award given to only six other radio broadcasters in the state, three of who are heavily associated with University of Nebraska broadcasts.

Schwartz is also the chairman-elect of the Nebraska Broadcasters Association. He will make numerous trips to Lincoln and Washington D.C. to lobby on behalf of the NBA.

Schwartz recently received certification from the Radio Advertising Bureau as a Certified Radio Marketing Consultant.

Hometown Family Radio is Nebraska’s largest Nebraska owned radio group, and the only Nebraska owned radio company in North Platte or Ogallala, the company said in the announcement.
