Titans football scores new home in Huntsville

(July 16, 2009) The NFL’s Tennessee Titans will join the lineups of Sports Radio 730 AM/103.9 FM WUMP and News/Talk 770 AM/92.5 FM WVNN as Titans Radio begins a new era in the Huntsville/Athens/Madison market.

“We are excited to extend the presence of the Titans in one of our most vitally important markets,” Titans Radio Executive Producer/Game Day Host Larry Stone said. “Loads of Titans fans in the Huntsville area drive to the games, show their support through events like the Titans Caravan, and overall support the Titans. We are glad to serve them through working with WUMP and WVNN.”

730/103.9 WUMP will carry all Titans Radio programming, including gameday coverage, the Tuesday night Jeff Fisher Show and the twice-daily Titans Reports. 770/92.5 WVNN will carry most games when other programming conflicts do not exist.

“There is no doubt, people in this area love the Titans!” WUMP/WVNN General Manager Bill West said. “It is a great thing to have them on our stations.”

WUMP and WVNN reflect the Titans Radio tradition of being on strong, active stations serving the local community. “Having the NFL will round out the WUMP and WVNN football commitment,” West said. “Friday nights are dedicated to three area high schools (Bob Jones, Athens, and Madison Academy), Saturdays are all Alabama and now Sundays with the Titans.”

The Titans Radio team of Mike Keith, Frank Wycheck and Larry Stone has been recognized as one of the NFL’s best. Keith, who made Thursday’s announcement in Hunstville, begins his eleventh season as the “Voice of the Titans” August 9. Keith has been recognized by his peers with Tennessee’s Sportscaster of the Year award seven times in the last nine years, including four straight years. He speaks to hundreds of groups each year and also hosts “Titans All Access,” the club’s weekly television show.

Wycheck went almost directly from a Pro Bowl career on the field to the broadcast booth. His statistics rate among the best in NFL history among tight ends, including one of just four tight ends in the league’s annals to record 500c catches. For almost a decade, he proved to be a steady force for the offense as part of the trio of Eddie George and Steve McNair. In 2008, the three became members of the Titans Ring Of Honor.

Stone’s connection with the franchise began 13 years as he helped build the Tennessee Oilers Radio Network from the ground. Stone has won numerous awards for sports journalism and sports reporting during his tenure with Titans Radio and twice has been runner-up to Keith for Sportscaster of the Year.

WVNN/WUMP will begin its Titans Radio coverage Monday August 3 with the return of the “Titans Report.” Titans Radio’s “Jeff Fisher Show” returns the following night, Tuesday August 4 at 6pm. Fans in Huntsville can join the conversation at 877-TITANS-1. The first game broadcast comes Sunday August 9 as the Titans open the 2009 pre-season in the Hall of Fame Game. The game marks the beginning of the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the AFL as two original AFL teams, the Titans and the Bills, face off.

The Titans will also open the 2009 regular season as they travel to Pittsburgh September 10.

“We are built for another exciting season,” Keith said. “With more weapons on offense and another outstanding defense, we have the tools to be there at the end. We’re excited about our new relationship in Huntsville and look forward to sharing the season with WUMP/WVNN listeners.”

More than 70 stations across the mid south are part of Titans Radio. The network also serves fans across the region with Titans news 24/7 at TitansRadio.Com.
