DEENER TO BROADCAST LOUISVILLE CARDINALS GAMES

(July 9. 2009) WHAS11 today announced Drew Deener is joining the WHAS11 Cardinal Sports Network’s broadcast team. Deener will be the play-by-play announcer and will join Doug James and Bob Valvano for WHAS11’s coverage of the 2009-10 University of Louisville football and basketball seasons.
Deener is the host of “The Early Birds” from 7am-10am on 790AM/WKRD. This is his second stint at WHAS11. In 2004, Deener served as Co-Sports Director in the news department. A majority of Deener’s career was spent in Lexington, KY doing TV and radio. He has been a sports anchor and reporter for WKYT-TV for 11 years. Deener co-hosted Cross and Deener on Sports, a radio sports talk show on ESPN Sports Radio 1300 for 5 years and Sportsline 59 on 590am for 2 years. In addition to his radio work, Deener was a member of the UK Football TV Network for 5 seasons as a sideline reporter. He also served as the play by play voice for the UK Baseball team from 2001-2004. In addition, Deener was the color analyst for the Kentucky Thoroughblades, an American Hockey League team in Lexington. Deener began his career in sports broadcasting as a sports anchor at WYMT in Hazard, Kentucky. He is a Louisville native and a graduate of St. Xavier High School. Deener earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Transylvania University in Lexington. Deener’s first game with James will be the University of Louisville’s season opener against Indiana State University on September 5, 2009. The broadcast will begin with a pregame show at 7pm followed by kickoff at 7:30pm. _______________________
