(June 23, 2009) Northern Kentucky University senior broadcast journalism major Will Chambers, has been recognized as one of the Top 20 Collegiate Sports Broadcasters in the country by Sportscasters Talent Agency of America (STAA).
The honor is part of STAA’s All-America Program, which recognizes the most outstanding collegiate radio sportscasters in the country. Each June, the nation’s most outstanding collegiate sportscaster is presented with the Jim Nantz Award. As part of the program, STAA honors the nation’s Top 20. “The aim of the STAA All-America program is to encourage collegiate sports broadcasters nationwide to strive to achieve their professional best,” said Jon Chelesnik, STAA CEO. Chambers said he learned about the contest through the STAA website and sent in an audio tape with all of the different types of work he had done in football and basketball broadcasting. “I was on Twitter when I saw that the winner of the Jim Nantz award had been posted,” Chambers said. “I then went to the main website to see who else had been recognized, not expecting to see my name on the list, and there it was.” Chambers graduated from Highlands High School in 1997 and has been involved with sports broadcasting ever since. He is currently employed by Georgetown College as a play-by-play announcer. He also made appearances on the NKU Sports Show on Norse Media as an anchor and sports reporter, as well as being the featured sports analyst for NKU’s independent student newspaper, The Northerner. Chambers also interns at WKRC Local 12 news. |
