SPORTS TALK HOST HACKSAW TO FILL-IN ON XX
(June 19, 2009) Lee Hamilton is coming back to XX Sports Radio.

(Pause for cheers of joy or screams of anguish.)

Sort of.

(Pause for sigh of disappointment or relief.)

The one and (thankfully) only Hacksaw will fill in the week of June 29 when Scott Kaplan and Billy Ray Smith go on vacation. Hamilton will work from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. and – here's the best part – XX Sports will have a live video stream.

(One station rumor has Supercuts sponsoring the video but I couldn't confirm that.)

“We're going to the bullpen and bringing him back,” said Jack Evans, the station's vice president of programming and operations. “I do think he's a talent.”

Evans declined to speculate on whether this could be, as Hacksaw himself would say, “The front end of something bigger.”

But it's no secret XX Sports will need another show after Padres season ends Oct. 4. And it's no secret Hamilton, who worked previously with Evans and station boss John Lynch, would love the opportunity.

Put it this way: Late last year after Bill Werndl was fired, I guessed Hacksaw would be in afternoon drive time for XX Sports on Jan. 5. The station instead went with Brown's Bozos.

Anyone for Oct. 5?
