SHORTHOUSE ON SHORT LEASH IN VANCOUVER
(June 8, 2009) Scott Moore, head of CBC Sports, has been spreading the message lately that it's time Hockey Night in Canada made room for a new generation of play-by-play announcers. The topic picked up momentum this week when it was revealed 76-year-old Bob Cole has one year left on his contract with CBC.

Rob Gray, program director at Team 1040, would also like it to be known that John Shorthouse has another year on his contract to do Canucks' games on radio when it doesn't conflict with his Rogers Sportsnet commitments.

"I would think that Shorty would be a potential for Hockey Night in Canada," Gray says. "But he'll be back with us for the 2009-2010 season. We just did a deal with him. I liked the extra coverage we got last year out of using three guys."

Rick Ball and Joey Kenward shared the Canucks' broadcasts when Shorthouse was working TV games. Team 1040 kicks into football mode Monday with six hours of daily coverage broadcast from the BC Lions' camp in Abbotsford.
