SURGERY ENDS SPORTS BROADCASTER NADEL'S STREAK
Courtesy
Dallas Morning News
(June 5, 2009) Rangers radio play-by-play man Eric Nadel underwent surgery Thursday morning to repair two tears in his right retina and will be out of the booth indefinitely.
Thursday's broadcast was the first Nadel had missed since 1989, a string of 3,176 consecutive games. Dave Barnett assumed Nadel's duties, and was joined by former Rangers catcher Jim Sundberg and Rangers publicist John Blake. Former major-league pitcher Steve Busby will join the team in Boston and be in the booth this weekend. Barnett said Nadel had complained of trouble seeing Wednesday night, and at one point used black tape to partially cover the eye during the broadcast. |
