(May 29, 2009) When Lambuth University football kicks off in the fall, Eagles fans will be able to hear it on a new station as play-by-play broadcaster Dave McCulley is heading back to American Family Radio on 88.7 FM.
It's actually a return for Lambuth football and basketball, as the Eagles' games were broadcast for nine years on AFR before going to 97.7 Supertalk FM. "This is actually a good move for Lambuth athletics because AFR has a bigger signal that can reach all over West Tennessee," McCulley said. "It reaches more Lambuth fans and can possibly be a recruiting tool for the college. "How many kids may grow up and decide to play basketball or football for Lambuth simply because they listened to the games on the radio?" McCulley, who has also been hosting a morning show with fellow broadcaster Steve Haman, will also be moving to a morning show with Jeff Thomas. "I decided to go back to AFR when Grace Broadcasting (owners of Supertalk) said they needed me to do more in the way of ad sales, and I don't have time to do that with my full-time job here at Lambuth," McCulley said. "And the morning show is an hour later on AFR, so that will allow me to be able to get an extra hour of sleep that I haven't gotten in the past year, which took its toll on me when we had a lot of late basketball games." McCulley will be on with Jeff Thomas beginning Monday at 8 a.m. The 2009 Lambuth football season will kick off on the road in Grayson, Kent., when the Eagles will be taking on Kentucky Christian University. |
