SPORTSCASTER ZELASKO PLEASED WITH FIRST BROADCAST

Los Angeles Daily Breeze
(May 26, 2009) What an incredibly stupid pandering idea. They've gone over the top and lost their minds. The last thing I want to hear on my baseball games is a female voice. - "AngryLady" of Woodland Hills
And to those nitwits who refuse to listen to a woman's voice doing sports, we heard the same senseless refrain not too long ago about a woman doing the news. Women are people, people. And if a person knows what he or she is talking about, I couldn't care less about the pitch of their voice. Hey, a baseball pun. Unintentional. Really. - "Laura" of Los Angeles Even before Jeanne Zelasko did her first play-by-play gig for the Dodgers' Web site Wednesday night as part of the team's Women's Initiatives Network program, the give-and-take comments on a dailynews.com story explaining the event painfully exposed it could take some a long time before they even accept the fact a woman's voice can describe a major-league baseball game, even to a limited audience. Zelasko and former Dodger Mark Sweeney did the online call of the Dodgers' 2-1 win over the Mets, which appears to be a big-league first. "Most of the texts and voicemails and e-mails I've been getting is they're happy I did it, all very positive, but I think I'm looking forward to deeper feedback," Zelasko said Thursday from her Valencia home. "We both thought it was a good first shot but we have higher expectations." Nine more broadcasts are scheduled - all Wednesday home games, including three in a row from June 3-17. The first three-hour broadcast also is archived on the Dodgers' Web site (www.dodgers.com/win) for those who want to add their own critique - after they hear it. |
