SPORTSCASTER BOB CHASE RETIRING AFTER 56 YEARS
(May 22, 2009) Legendary Fort Wayne radio announcer Bob Chase is retiring after 56 years behind the microphone at WOWO.

The 83-year-old Chase announced his retirement on his show Friday morning. He will end his 4 a.m. sports shift on June 1, but will be back in October to begin his 57th season calling Fort Wayne Komets minor league hockey games.

During his time with WOWO, Chase worked as a disc jockey, as well as in sport news, programming and promotions.

The general manager of the radio group that owns WOWO calls Chase the last link to the station's illustrious past. But Mark DePrez says Chase "remained relevant to contemporary listeners."

Chase says he always tried to stay humble because he felt people were inviting him into their homes.
