SPORTSCASTER TIRICO EXITS ESPN RADIO SHOW

(May 19, 2009) In an apparent attempt to make Mike Tirico a younger Chris Berman, ESPN has juggled its lineup, giving its “Monday Night Football” play-by-play voice “a variety of high-profile TV and radio assignments.”
Tirico’s name will be dropped from the “Tirico & Van Pelt show” from 2 to 4 p.m. weekdays. “The Scott Van Pelt Show” begins July 6 with Ryan Russillo as co-host for the final hour, which will be simulcast on ESPN2. Tirico will now be host to a weekly two-hour program (7-9 p.m. Fridays) devoted to college and pro football. He will also handle radio play-by-play for the NBA Finals, Rose Bowl and BCS Championship Game. On the TV side, added to Tirico’s plate (which includes MNF, NBA, Masters and the NFL Draft) will be “a prominent role” in the network’s coverage of U.S. Open tennis, World Cup soccer and BCS football games. |
