SPORTS BROADCASTER PERRAULT MOVING TO DES MOINES
(May 1, 2009) The sports radio dial is spinning again. Des Moines, get ready for a dose of Matt Perrault.

The 32-year-old host, most recently of the Big 590 in Omaha, is slated to be announced Thursday as the new afternoon drive-time personality on 1460-AM KXNO, at least according to those close to the situation.

When reached by The Register, Perrault declined comment.

A formal announcement by the parent company of KXNO, Clear Channel, is expected to be made Thursday afternoon.

As of early Wednesday evening, Perrault was slated to co-host the 4-7 p.m. slot with Ken Miller, the surviving half of the old “Marty & Miller” show, starting on Friday.

Miller’s previous partner, Marty Tirrell, was fired by Clear Channel last month after a profanity-laced tirade with another KXNO personality, Larry Cotlar, was heard over the air.

However, word on the street was that Miller, as of Wednesday, was still in the process of negotiating his contract with Clear Channel.

Perrault, who’s teased the move to Des Moines for several weeks on both his blog and his Twitter account, has also worked in Huntsville, Ala., and Charlottesville, Va.

The hiring of the Massachusetts native is the latest domino to fall in the wake of the mass firings at KXNO in March — which saw Tirrell, Cotlar, and Geoff Conn, Cotlar’s producer, all cut loose.

KXNO in recent weeks has revamped its lineup, with afternoon host Jon Miller pairing with WHO-AM personality Steve Deace for a morning show that replaces Cotlar’s old slot, while Channel 13 sports veterans Keith Murphy and Andy Fales moved into Miller’s old spot between 2-4 p.m. In turn, rival station 1700-AM KBBG, “The Champ,” hired Cotlar to do news updates and began a new daily local talk show from 12-1 p.m. that features Channel 8 sports director Andy Garman and Steve “The Round Guy” Pilchen.
