BRAVES BASEBALL BACK ON IN BIRMINGHAM
(April 30, 2009) The Atlanta Braves will be back on local radio, perhaps as early as next week, thanks to a format change at Cox Broadcasting's WENN AM-1320.

"We understand this is the No.2 Braves' market," said Kori White, operations manager for Cox Broadcasting in Birmingham. "The Braves needed a home. We decided to provide.

"We're looking at the whole option of being able to carry every Braves' game. We think it will be an asset to everyone in the Birmingham audience."

White said he expects the station to begin broadcasting Braves game beginning Monday.

"Needless to say, the Braves are completely excited to be back on in Birmingham," said John Clark, affiliate relations director of the Atlanta Braves Radio Network.

"My understanding is WENN had a lease deal that ended, and they were in a format change. So it hit at the right time. They haven't mentioned any potential conflicts, so we assume it will be pretty much every game, live. They seem wide open and very excited about the opportunity."

Braves' games had been broadcast by one of the Birmingham Citadel Broadcasting stations, either WJOX or WSPZ. But this year, Citadel committed to broadcasting the ESPN Game of the Week, and live programming precluded carrying Braves games.

The Braves have one of the largest radio networks in the country, according to Clark. In addition to WENN, the Braves can be heard on 13 stations in Alabama.
