UNVL BASKETBALL ANALYST GONDREZICK DIES

(April 29, 2009) The Runnin' Rebels have lost a member of their family. Former UNLV basketball player and radio analyst, Glen Gondrezick, died Monday at the age of 53 from apparent complications stemming from a heart transplant surgery last September.
"Gondo", as he was affectionately known, starred for the Rebels in the mid-1970's and later had his #25 jersey retired. For the past 17 seasons, he called basketball games on the radio. Last June, doctors placed Gondrezick on the critical transplant list after they discovered his heart had 91 percent blockage. Given his large height and weight, it took six months to find an appropriate donor. Gondo returned to the sidelines for the UNLV season opener and participated with John Sandler on every radio broadcast. He is survived by his two sons and one daughter. The Thomas & Mack Center will hold a memorial service on Thursday at 11am. The public is free to attend. |
