SPORTSCASTER DAUGHTERY, OTHERS OUT IN CINCINNATI
(April 28, 2009) It's a dark day at Clear Channel.

"SportsTalk" host Paul Daugherty has been laid off. He's apparently being replaced by Lance McAlister from sister station Homer WCKY-AM.

In fact, the WLW-AM Forum page lists "SportsTalk with Lance McAlister" already.

Sports blogger C. Trent Rosecrans and morning host Alan Cutler also confirmed they are out. Mo Egger stays at the station, but loses his 9 a.m.-noon show.

Matt Steinmann, who produces Bill Cunningham's and Mike McConnell's WLW-AM talk shows, was let go too. Also gone are talk show producers Travis Holmes and Mark Chalifoux.

Cutler also says he's out as host of the Bengals Radio Network and WLW-AM weekend shifts, which he has been doing for 8 years. Cutler has no idea what we'll hear on the station Wednesday. Everyone guessing it will be Fox Sports radio, since ESPN is on WSAI-AM (1360).

The only local show left on 1530 WCKY-AM will be Lance McAlister's 3-6 p.m. spot. When the Reds play a night game, he'll switch over to WLW-AM to host "SportsTalk" 6 p.m. until Reds pregame starts.

When the Reds don't play a night game, McAlister will just do WLW-AM 6-9 p.m., and Mo Egger will sub for Lance 3-6 p.m. on 1530.

“It has been a very difficult day around here today," McAlister said on his show. "A number of people who I consider friends lost their jobs. I wish them nothing but the best. It’s just a reality of the times. I’m still trying to figure out the batting order in all of this. It’s still transpiring. I’d prefer not to discuss anymore, at least for today.”

These are part of national "second wave" of cuts by owner Clear Channel.

Scott Sloan, whose 9 p.m.-midnight show is pre-empted by the Reds for six months, just told Cunningham's audience that he'll do the "Extra Innings" post-game call-in show tonight, instead of Doc.

It's not known if Sloan will be the permanent replacement.

There's been no word from Clear Channel execs if layoffs will be made on the FM side of the dial.
